Nine Lynchings in First Half of Year Reported
During the first six months of the year there were nine lynchings in the United States. All victims were negroes and the offenses included murder, attempted murder, rape, improper conduct, and a reported count. $75 000 Damage Suit Filed Here This Week
Williams Croft and Busbee file a $75,000 damage suit in Aiken County Court of Common Pleas for the death of Willie Franklin. He died after a Standard Oil gasoline tank exploded at the Park avenue and York street branch last February, fracturing his leg and causing fatal injuries. The suit names J. M. Franklin as administrator. Buist and Buist of Charleston defend for the Standard Oil Company.
