Judge delays start of Roof's state trial

A Charleston judge moved the state trial of Dylann Roof for nine counts of murder in the Emanuel AME Church massacre to January. Jury selection had been planned for December, with January testimony, to allow more prep time amid Roof's federal case. Public Defender Pennington cites inability to meet Roof in federal court. Court sides with solicitor over attorney general in corruption probe

South Carolina’s Supreme Court ruled 4-1 that Solicitor David Pascoe was authorized to open a state grand jury investigation into legislative corruption. The court found Pascoe acted with authority, despite Attorney General Alan Wilson’s claim he overstepped. The decision ends a public feud and upheld Pascoe’s continued probe.
