Washington AP reports consumer prices rose 0.1 percent in June the smallest gain in seven months driven by cheaper clothing and moderating food costs. Separately the Commerce Department notes retail sales up 0.7 percent in June after a revised 0.9 percent in May signaling a recovering economy.
A Villeary-Ayear-old Anderson man, Jose Arago-Teixeira, will serve 12 years in federal prison after pleading guilty to money laundering and conspiring to smuggle and distribute large amounts of cocaine and marijuana. U.S. District Judge Henry M. Herlong Jr. imposed the sentence after the guilty plea.
Nine people including a 15 month old child must receive rabies shots after contact with kittens exposed to a rabid cat. Health officials located six of twenty kittens on Wednesday but had no new leads on Thursday. spokesman Mike Shaw warned the full search may not yield all animals.

WILLISTON A major fire destroyed the old drug store of Mayor Tommy Rivers, the First Citizens Bank building, and Jackie's Florist, leaving a void in the town.
