Anonymous citizen pays veteran’s lunch in heartwarming act
Aiken veteran Sidney Hartley, a World War II and Korea participant, receives a free lunch after an anonymous diner thanks him for his service while at Baynham's Family Restaurant. Hartley, retired from Savannah River Site, recalls Africa, Sicily, Italy and Inchon. The donor, a regular customer, paid the bill and vanished, prompting Hartley to write the Aiken Standard.

Coroner reports 61 deaths in June in Aiken County
The Aiken County Coroner's Office investigated 61 death cases in June with three autopsies. Of the 61, 52 were natural deaths, one by own action, three from tram accidents, one cause 18 pending, and one undetermined. Forty occurred during daylight and 21 at night. One hundred dollars?
