Miss Southern 500 Captures South Carolina Title

Janet Powers, Miss Southern 500, was named Miss South Carolina and will represent the state in the Miss America Pageant. The Florence Darlington Technical College and Coker College alumna earns a $17,000 scholarship. First runner-up Frances Jordan, followed by Donna Evans and Shannon Willis, with Keirh Minnis as fourth runner-up, completed the finalists.

Commanding Officers Join Aiken Salvation Army Leadership

Captains Timothy and Donna Carter become co commanding officers of the Aiken Salvation Army. Both come from long lines of officers and recall turning points in 1978 and 1985. They aim to grow the congregation and, in time, open a separate building for the Boys and Girls Club, while focusing on family oriented ministry and youth service in the community.
