Edgefield pottery Coming Sunday

Two Aiken County residents died and three other travelers were injured in a three vehicle crash on Saturday night near Aiken on S C 19 in front of Unity Holiness Church. A van crossed the center line and hit a northbound tractor trailer causing both vehicles to ignite. The van burned to bare metal and remained on the roadway for hours. The injured were taken to Aiken Regional Medical Centers. The tractor trailer driver and passenger were from Kentucky. Local fire and sheriff crews assisted at the scene.

Wilma Lewis Johnston, longtime resident of Bath, died peacefully. Services are pending with arrangements by the Bath Funeral Home. She is survived by her children and several grandchildren.

Olympic hostess from Aiken to assist visitors in Atlanta

Sissy Brodie Brodie plans to carry flags from 25 nations and help international tourists during the Atlanta Summer Olympics. An event planner, she will leave Wednesday for three and a half weeks, coordinating housing and transportation and guiding guests to events despite a potential three hour downtown travel time. She emphasizes the once in a lifetime nature of the assignment and remains optimistic despite the crowds and negativism.

New citizens urged to embrace America first

Seventy three new Americans were naturalized in a ceremony at the Charles E. Simons Jr. Federal Courthouse where Judge Charles E. Simons Jr. presided. Dr. Leonard Kosinski urged new citizens to learn English and American history and to cherish their new nation. The oath of allegiance was administered as deputies and 29 District Court officials attended.

Bond set for woman in husband's murder

Circuit Judge Tom Ervin set a 10000 dollar bond Friday for Deloris Redd Lanham 33 of Belvedere charged with murder in her husband Larry Lanham 38 shot in the head during a domestic dispute The suspect cannot post bond until Sunday per the family wishes The murder case follows Lanham dying at an Augusta hospital Aiken County investigators arrested Lanham after she reported the shooting and two shots were fired from a 357 Magnum but one hit Lanham In a separate proceeding Ervin also sentenced Lannie Stroman 38 of Aiken to concurrent 15 and 20 year terms on burglary and criminal sexual conduct charges with at least 80 percent of the sentence to be served before parole consideration
