Hayden Baptist Church Fire Declared Act of Nature in Couchton
Fire crews from Aiken and nearby counties fought a Tuesday evening blaze at Hayden Baptist Church destroying the historic building. Lightning struck the steeple causing the fire, with hot spots smoldering into the next day despite rains and 100 firefighters using wells ponds and hydrants for water. The Red Cross assisted as pastors and union churches planned meetings to discuss options.
