Two students from North Augusta's Martial Arts America captured national titles in a recent competition. The Mended Hearts Chapter was named runner-up for the national President's Cup, the top national honor for chapters. More than two dozen copper caps atop wood posts along Hopelands Gardens trails disappeared overnight between Wednesday evening and Thursday morning. Valued at 14 dollars each, the partially ornamental caps protect wooden posts and were reported to Aiken Public Safety by caretaker Jim Blalock after a City of Aiken employee noticed the theft. Gardens volunteer Bob McCa was quoted on the impact of the loss.
URS Washington Division, once rebuffed at the Savannah River Site, now leads Nuclear Management Partners as “preferred bidder” for the Sella field nuclear cleanup in West Cumbria, United Kingdom. Consortium president Bob Pedde, ex-Savannah River Company chief, will finalize the contract with the UK Nuclear Decommissioning Authority through a forthcoming NDA process.
