Rain did not deter more than 300 fans from Chris Mangelly's Brazilian Night of Jazz at the H Odell Weeks Activities Center. Mangelly led a piano driven set with Nat Gaddy, George Sykes, Steve Pruitt, Fabio Mann and guest percussionists Norman Evans and Juan Pifton providing a lively blend of Jobim favorites.
Attorney General Henry McMaster announced a proactive Internet Predator Task Force with SLED and Aiken Public Safety to target online propensities before contact. The Aiken unit will operate in weeks, using undercover chats to lure predators while educating parents on Web based controls like cyber sitter net nanny and cyber patrol.
Aiken City Council, in a 1st reading vote, approved Andy Pye's annexation of a Whiskey Road lot south of the Aiken Bowl for a Checkers restaurant after aligning access with the Publix Shopping Center. A second reading and public hearing are set for August. Pye aims to begin construction within three months.
