Storms Cause Damage Across Aiken County
Tuesday afternoon storms toppled trees and caused power outages across Aiken County. In Warrenville a large oak fell on Rhoden Street near 149 Robbe Street, prompting SCDOT crews to clear the roadway. North Augusta Man Dies After Two Vehicle Crash
A Tuesday morning two car collision on Hwy 290 near Murrah Road Edgefield claimed the life of Henry Mullenhard 82 of North Augusta. John Wembles 37 of Martinez Ga drove a 1990 Chevrolet Blazer northbound when Mullenhard failed to yield and turned his 1989 Ford Contour. Mullenhard died at 1130 am from massive internal injuries Coroner Thurmond Burnett said. Wembles was uninjured.

New bridge plan for Hollow Creek on US Route 278
The South Carolina Department of Transportation and the Federal Highway Administration seek approval to build a new Hollow Creek bridge on US 278. Surveying will begin soon with hydraulic testing to follow six to eight months later. Bid opening is projected for late 2002, with a temporary detour bridge during construction and reduced speeds on the detour.
