Greenville based report says former Senator Theo Mitchell, expelled in January and defeated in May, has abandoned his legal bid to challenge the South Carolina Senate’s expulsion. He cited time, cost, and anxiety as the reasons, noting the effort would not have resolved the dispute.
Charles A. Brunson of Varnville, age unknown, drowned Tuesday at the Varnville Pool on U.S. Highway 278 after a lifeguard chased him from a deep area. Hampton County Coroner Gordon Rhoden confirmed the death as authorities traced a brief moment before the lifeguard answered a phone call.
