Mr Wickersham the Hoover commission chairman says prior moderate measures to curb liquor failed and prohibition arose from liquor men abusing privileges. President Hoover outlines plans for the Farm Relief Bill to stabilize prices handle surpluses and market crops. A Federal Farm Board plus advisory councils stabilization corporation and warehouse associations will be set up by September with $151 150 000 appropriated to finance government aid. Cotton relief may spawn a southern stabilization body to market cotton while cooperatives seek surplus purchases for export. The program aims to expand foreign markets reduce marketing costs and prevent waste, teaching farmers to organize like industry.
Dr Wade Stackhouse of Dillon is urged by Senator Smith to join the Federal Farm Board created by the Farm Relief Bill. Hoover is expected to appoint nine members including Secretary Arthur Hyde. Stackhouse is praised as a practical, experienced farmer and operator. Appointment hoped before mid June.
Representative McSwain of South Carolina and Senator Frazier of North Dakota spoke at an Anti Cigarette Alliance demonstration in Washington. Over 2000 people attended to protest the spread of national decadence through the cigarette habit.
