Officials say the spill stayed on Burris property and was not a hazard to the public, though a small amount reached Brickyard Creek and Ashley River after dilution. Firefighters, Coast Guard and cleanup crews worked to contain and dilute the acid, with traffic near the site blocked.

Two Charged With North Augusta Zippy Mart Robbery
Two men, Kenneth A James 25 and Robert C Gregory 26, were jailed in Aiken County on $30,000 bond each on armed robbery charges for the North Augusta Zippy Mart robbery on Knox Avenue at 5:56 a.m. Thursday. They brandished a knife, obtained an undisclosed amount of cash, and were caught about two minutes later by an Aiken County deputy. No injuries were reported.
