Gov. Jimmy Carter faced questions about a possible bid for the 1976 Democratic nomination after reports he discussed the run with party officials in Washington. Carter did not deny discussions and noted 15 to 26 others also eye the presidency.
The President will meet Simon before he travels to the Middle East to discuss energy and economic issues. He will also confer with finance ministers in Bonn, London and Paris, attend a Cabinet session, and brief congressional leaders on the Soviet summit. He then heads to the California White House in San Clemente for about two weeks.
