A Salem ceremony marks a memorial for the thousands cremated at Oregon State Hospital from 1913 to 1971. Of 5,300 cremations, 3,409 identified remains await relatives, with 38 urns likely unidentifiable. Some ashes will return to tribes or communities.

Man reports shark attack off Southern California coast
Steven Robles was swimming near Manhattan Beach when a seven foot juvenile great white lunged and bit him on the chest after becoming entangled with a fisherman's hook.
