Aiken police say scam artists cash checks and push victims to wire funds to a Nigerian shipping company. Krug wired 3000 dollars after signs of a scam were ignored and had to borrow to repay. Detective Savage notes a surge in such schemes and cautions that bank cashing a check does not mean funds are cleared.
Western Union says it spends over a century aiding global transfers but faces widespread Nigeria scam questions. Spokesperson Sherry Johnson urges consumer awareness and education as key defenses, noting transfers should go to known people and cautions against using Western Union for stranger business.
Salt Lake City Mark Hacking was told he would spend 29 more years in Utah prison before a parole hearing set for August 1 2034. He pleaded guilty to first degree murder in April for shooting Lori Hacking and disposing of her body in a trash bin. Lori Hacking’s parents welcomed the decision calling it justice. The body was found in a landfill in October.
