A Texas state police helicopter helped stop a mobile margarita vendor en route to Farm Aid II. The unlicensed driver offered a gallon of margarita for 10 dollars to passing motorists on U S 290 and had 38 unsold gallons in his station wagon.
Arturo Cruz says the United States is studying a request to send Vietnam War veterans to train guerrillas seeking to topple the Sandinista government. In Honduras, about 100 Vietnam veterans are arriving for joint maneuvers with Honduran forces, with officials denying any training of Contras.
Today showers are possible with a 20 percent chance of afternoon storms as clouds increase. Highs reach the mid range while tonight stays fair with lows in the 70s. Tomorrow turns sunny and hot with highs in the upper 90s. Details on page 6A.

The 1985 Drought Response Act lets the Water Resources Commission push local towns in Aiken County to adopt drought measures by fall 1987. Aiken and North Augusta plan to begin work this year, though officials doubt strict enforcement will be needed. The act sets drought levels from incipient to extreme and allows fines up to 1000 dollars per day for violations.
Aiken Planning and Zoning Commission will review an annexation and zoning request for about 116 acres on Whiskey Road south of Dougherty Road for Aiken’s first mall and a potential McDonalds on the south side. The agenda includes subdividing parcels and a small annexation near Linden Street.
