Israel hailed the Uganda airport rescue as a national triumph. The three-plane raid into East Africa on Saturday night freed over 100 hijacking victims and was called a legendary operation by Prime Minister Yitzhak Rabin, marking a major battle against terrorism.
President Ford participates in the Bicentennial by personally greeting 100 new citizens at Monticello near Charlottesville Virginia. Supreme Court Justice Powell will administer the citizenship oath. Ford notes in prepared remarks that after two centuries there is still something wonderful about being an American.

The State Budget and Control Board approved a $1.5 million project for a 32 000 square foot building at USC A to house classrooms and faculty offices. William C Casper says the site is beside the Gregg Graniteville library with construction slated to begin later this year and a target completion in January 1978.
The first official meeting of the Aiken County Council will proceed with four of seven council members absent. Council Chairman Harold V. Graybeal announced the meeting for 7 p.m. in Room 107 at USCA. Absent members include Ralph Cullinan Cleve Edmunds L Vernon Davis and Forest L Kirby.
Area peach growers report a very large crop aided by an unusually warm spring and heavy rainfall that caused early ripening. Clemson agent Clinton Hallman notes ripening two to three weeks ahead of last year and strong market demand. Some growers, like Jerrold Watson, see high volume depressing prices, while others report good quality fruit and imminent full harvest within two weeks.
