The 10th anniversary Run United charity event returns October 9 with a half marathon 10K and 5K all starting and finishing in downtown Aiken. Aiken Electric Cooperative and Touchstone Energy sponsor the fundraiser for United Way of Aiken County and feature a new course, commemorative medal and photo, with proceeds aiding 30 agencies and 45 programs. Surfside Beach receives condo collapse calls from around world
Surfside Beach officials say hundreds called after the Champlain Towers South collapse in Surfside Florida. Calls came from as far as Brazil with many seeking loved ones, donations, or information. Fire Chief Larry Carter Jr. noted 20 confirmed dead and 128 still unaccounted for as of July 2. Citizens were urged to contact Miami-Dade Emergency Operations for missing persons and to donate via Support Surfside or The Miami Foundation.
