Mystery Oak of Rocky Ridge Described by Laurens Botany Visit
In Laurens County a hardy white oak grows on craggy dry ridges among quartzite monadnocks. The tree bears lobed glossy leaves up to nine inches, large single-year acorns, and often twists trunks from storm damage. John Nelson of the A C Moore Herbarium offers free identifications through the South Carolina campus.
