Major update to South Carolina fishing rules takes effect
The South Carolina Department of Natural Resources implemented a sweeping overhaul of fishing laws on July 1 as part of Bills 3864 and 3865. Striped and hybrid bass now have a 10 fish limit with only three over 26 inches. all fish must be brought ashore with head and tail intact. The change follows a four year process with public feedback and coordination with Georgia regarding the Savannah River chain. Local retailers report limited pushback, while DNR emphasizes patience during transition and potential adjustments after a year or two.
