NBA hires Army General to oversee officiating program
The NBA named Army Maj. Gen. Ronald L. Johnson senior vice president of referee operations to strengthen officiating after the Donaghy scandal. Johnson, a 32 year Army veteran and former Gulf Region division commander, will oversee all officiating while Stu Jackson handles other basketball matters. Mark Cuban welcomed the hiring, calling it ideal due to Johnsons leadership and engineering background. Stern called Johnson a fitting leader to extract top performance from referees and improve processes. Donaghy faces sentencing later this month for game fixing and wagering on games.

Two UGA linemen arrested for simple battery
Athens police report two University of Georgia football players Justin Anderson and Trinton Sturdivant were jailed on simple battery charges after an alleged early Friday incident at East Campus Village. Both were released on $1,500 bonds. attorney Ed Tolley says the charges are unfounded and the players deny any offensive contact.
