Universal Health Services cleared to acquire Aiken Regional Medical Centers from HCA Columbia Healthcare after a unanimous FTC vote. The King of Prussia, Pennsylvania based firm will exchange Dallas Family Hospital and Westlake Medical Center plus cash for ARMC, with completion expected next Friday. ARMC continues operating separately under FTC divestment conditions.
Aiken County Tax Assessor Patricia Antley said about 2000 properties will show a decline in values when reassessment notices arrive next week. Southern Systems began mailing 76,752 notices. some taxpayers will learn their new tax obligations by Monday. Notices show 1989 assessment numbers, new figures, and yearly increase percentages. Agricultural land of 10 acres or more retains 4 percent, while golf courses go to 6 percent. Antley expects 10,000 to 15,000 appeals, potentially rising with higher values. The reassessment reflects six years without update and prior under-appraisal in 1989.
