The Tar Heels defeated Vanderbilt for their second consecutive win, extending momentum in the late season push. Carolina leveraged solid defense and key plays to secure the win on the road.
Pete Frommer, long a fire station mascot and dreamer, is named director of the Aiken Department of Public Safety succeeding Chief Carrol Busbee. His family witnessed the pinning ceremony after Busbee’s retirement, and Frommer begins a 14 hour day training to lead with a solid foundation to build on.
Mark and Becky Geeting traveled to Miami to attend the Super Bowl between the Atlanta Falcons and Denver Broncos. After hours of phone calls for tickets they secured a package including three nights in a sea view hotel hosting a fan and Falcons player autograph party. The Geetings are long time season ticket holders dating back to 1980 or 1981 with roots in a sports loving family.
Geeting describes immediate hook for Super Bowl XXXIII and laughs at wife Mrs Geeting comment. Mark Geeting is horrified at missing a game. The couple does not find the trip to Atlanta arduous and says they can make the two hour journey.

Langley suffered a water outage for 39 families after an eight inch main was struck near Carline Road and Minter Avenue by Norfolk Railroad workers laying fiber optic cable. Crews from Langley Water and Sewer District halted flow by 10 p.m. and asked customers to flush systems to remove mud. No cost estimate was available Saturday night.
Washington prosecutors anticipate Monica Lewinsky will support an obstruction of justice charge with near total recall of her talks with Clinton and her interpretation of his statements. Rep. Ed Bryant will question Lewinsky to test her claim that she was not asked to lie or promised a job for silence.
Gov Jim Hodges considers ending the $125 a day cap on video poker payouts and taxing winnings as part of broader poker rules. The plan could precede a legislative package with $150 million in new poker taxes and a background check on machine owners. Senator Wes Hayes warned that removing the cap could weaken regulation of a $2.3 billion industry.
