The City of Aiken announces an informational meeting for a Senior Adult Basketball League for residents 60 and older. A noon session will be held Wednesday Feb 12 at H Odell Weeks 1700 Whiskey Road. If interest exists a men’s and women’s league may be formed. Call 803 642 7761 for details.
The Augusta Christian Singles host a Saturday dance at the Ballroom Dance Center in Evans Georgia. The event starts at 8 p.m. with admission 10 for guests and 8 for members and free dance lessons at 7 p.m. More information is at christiandances.org.
Robert Hewitt III, 42, of Church Street, was jailed after a Tuesday disturbance in Aiken where he fought with a deputy, tried to pull a knife, and was charged with two counts of third degree assault and battery and trespassing after notice. He remained in the Aiken County detention center Wednesday afternoon as officers responded to Valleydale Lane. A deputy removed a chain from Hewitt and attempted to detain him. A second deputy aided and one officer was checked at a clinic for a hand injury.
Aiken County Sheriff’s reports show a burglary on Wagon Trail Road Wagoner with five family photos stolen. Another burglary on Church Street Warrenville involved a missing television. Vandalism on a North Augusta home occurred when a woman with a butter knife tried to enter. A Stone Mountain woman said a North Augusta man repossessed her purchased vehicle which had a pawn lien. Vehicles were stolen on Laurie Drive Beech Island and Old Barnwell Road Aiken.
The day’s bookings list arrestees at the Doris C Gravat Detention Center with charges including open container of liquor DUI trespass after notice malicious injury to animals or property and domestic violence.
