In a unanimous vote on Monday night Beverly Clyburn was chosen by the Aiken City Council to serve as mayor pro tem. She succeeds Lessie Price, who held the post for two years, marking a new leadership step for the council on Page 2A.

Aiken City Council debated a proposed eight year term limit for volunteers on 13 committees. If approved, 31 of 74 volunteers would not be reappointed when terms expire. The discussion, started in December, continued with a Feb 11 session planned before a first reading of changes to appointing bodies.
