In Warsaw the 41 year old Communist Party dissolved as reformers backed by Solidarity formed a Social Democracy of the Republic of Poland. A faction led by Tadeusz Fiszbach launched another party to avoid lingering old regime ties. The move follows moves in Hungary as Poland pursues democratic reforms across the bloc.
