State to defend MOX dispute with DOE over fines
South Carolina will sue the federal Department of Energy for unpaid fines tied to the Savannah River Site MOX facility. Gov. Nikki Haley asked Attorney General Alan Wilson to pursue litigation after a plan to collect 1 million dollars daily for missed milestones was raised. The 2003 agreement required DOE to remove or process 34 metric tons of weapons plutonium at SRS.
