Security Federal Bank celebrates its 90th anniversary tracing origins to the Aiken Building & Loan Association founded in March 1922. It opened on Laurens Street with 50 000 dollars in deposits, grew through name changes, branches, and staff, and now holds over 900 million dollars in assets as the county’s largest financial institution with more than 30 percent of the deposit market share.
The Southeast Tool Inc. and Southeastern Systems Inc. are highlighted for growth since 1960 with Don Cheeks taking ownership in 1985 and ongoing machining and design services. ACTS executive director Bukovitz is recognized for expanding aid programs and leading a downtown facility renovation while praising volunteers and community support.
At the 26th annual Horizons Retreat, City Council discussed turning a 60 acre Beaufort Street landfill into a park using 2.6 million in capital funds. Parker cited safety, with Pearson Russell Design Associates Tetra Tech and Clemson University crews backing plans for fields trails archery and disc golf amid water leak concerns.
City officials and Cracker Barrel staff previewed the new restaurant and country store at 2364 Whiskey Road ahead of its Monday opening. General Manager Mark Guy noted 15 years with Cracker Barrel and 185 hires, with more than 3 000 applications received.
