Los Angeles police reported Freddie Prinze 22 star of Chico and The Man was found at his West Los Angeles apartment and rushed to UCLA Medical Center after an apparent self inflicted gunshot. A gun was recovered near him and doctors operated in the early hours.
An administration economist warned that adding much to President Carter's 31.2 billion economic stimulus package could prompt a veto. Top officials defended the plan before the House Budget Committee as Democrats pressed on whether the program will be limited to 15.5 billion this year and 15.7 billion next year.
President Carter pushes quick congressional action on his emergency energy package while lawmakers demand safeguards to avoid delaying long term aims to end natural gas price controls.
