Dear Abby Letters On Remarriage Etiquette And Privacy
A reader questions whether remarriage after seven months respects the deceased spouse. Abby says respect is shown by how you treat the living, and waiting a year isn’t essential if happiness is possible. A second reader asks how to handle pressuring a potential date. Abby suggests a casual gathering to test interest. A third asks if guests may inquire who else will attend. Abby says it’s impolite and hosts should state party type. A final note covers reading a separated spouse’s mail. Abby affirms the wife’s right to read mail under their shared roof, citing federal law.
