Celgard shelving Aiken site in favor of Charlotte and Concord plans
Celgard will not open a new plant in Aiken County after considering Delgard's site there. The company will expand capacity at its Charlotte, North Carolina facility and build a new plant in Concord, North Carolina, boosting US lithium ion battery separator output and creating over 1,200 jobs including contractors. Delgard had explored a site in Aiken with potential state incentives up to 18.6 million dollars, but no follow through occurred. Celgard separators power consumer electronics and EDV grid management applications.
