Slaughter melody theme for tricentennial play Indian Lullaby
Aiken composer William T. Slaughter wrote the theme Indian Lullaby for the tricentennial play Drums Along the Savannah. The University of South Carolina Symphonic Band will perform the overture and a choral arrangement will follow. Slaughter also arranged a piano version and authored other pieces to score scenes including the DeSoto arrival background.

Boa constrictor Adam evades rescue in Waterloo duct
In Waterloo Iowa a three foot pet boa named Adam hides in a heater duct between apartment floors. Mary Rees 16 brought the snake from a pet shop two weeks ago and police and residents have failed to lure him out. The snake is due for a live mouse feeding and a policeman suggested placing prey near the duct.

Judge Haggerty cleared in sex movie and stag party case

Aiken County maintenance supervisor Morgan Holley says school vandalism will total about 20000 by year end, far below Charleston and Richland totals. A report with anti vandalism measures will be reviewed February 5 by the county school board, including shifts for cleaning and early leak reporting.

City Council Announces 1970 Paving Program
City Council last night announced the proposed paving plan for 1970. The project includes storm sewers and resurfacing about three miles of streets and under one mile of new paving on South Boundary Avenue from Laurens Street West with several inlets and a connecting 18 inch pipe. Estimated costs total 10 500 dollars for these portions plus 19 100 dollars for the Fairfield Street storm sewer segment and 1 375 feet of 30 inch concrete pipe. Resurfacing also covers Chesterfield Street Dupont Drive and Teague Street with specific endpoints.
