Sad passing of Rosalie McCabe in Charleston
Rosalie McCabe sixteen daughter of Mr and Mrs Frank McCabe of Charleston died Monday night in Charleston after six weeks illness. Granddaughter of Mr and Mrs Lewis Bradwell she had visited here often. Friends express deep sympathy. A W Oakley and Mrs Roma were en route to Charleston and Mrs Oakley was at the bedside. Funeral held Wednesday afternoon at St Luke's Episcopal Church in Charleston.

Golf Links Expansion Near Highland Park Nears Finish

Noted Soprano Mabel Garrison To Sing Here In Pro Arte Recital
Miss Mabel Garrison the noted soprano will give a song recital as Pro Arte's second number on February 5. Dutch Draper performs February 21 with Efrem Zimbalist slated for March. Zimbalist recently visited Aiken at the Hofmann home amid a circle of patrons. Garrison, a Baltimore native, is a colorature soprano who sang with the Metropolitan Opera and has appeared with the Boston and New York symphonies gaining wide praise.

Aiken Library Shifts Story Hour To Tuesday Afternoon
Mrs Leon Holley announces the weekly story hour for children will run Tuesday 4 to 5 PM instead of Wednesday due to Girl Scout meetings. The library board thanks her and notes the library is now open daily. In General Sessions court only one murder case remains to be tried, Tilliman Williams granted a new trial by the supreme court.

Opening of New Ice Cream Parlor Draws Big Crowd
Last Friday afternoon the Misses Burckhalter opened their Ice Cream Parlor and Luncheonette at Laurens Street and Richland Avenue. Billy Madden's Orchestra played as crowds gathered. Small candy boxes were handed out during the event and over five hundred souvenirs were given away, though many could not be distributed. The turnout greatly surpassed expectations.

Mrs Usula Dodgen aged 79 wife of the late W S Dodgen died at her Graniteville home Monday evening after six. She had lived in Graniteville 41 years was a devoted Christian and member of St James Lutheran Church. Survived by six children and many grandchildren and great grandchildren. Funeral held at St James Lutheran Church Graniteville Wednesday at 2 30 p m Rev H S Petrea officiating interment in Graniteville Cemetery.

Secretary of State W. Banks Dove Dies After Illness
W Banks Dove secretary of state died at his home 1812 High Street Colonial Heights after a two month illness. Gov Thomas-G McLeod announced the flags would be lowered to half mast in his honor. Dove born February 28 1869 in Halesticville Fairfield County was educated at Catawba College earning AB in 1896 and MA in 1916. He served as assistant secretary of state 1908 and was elected secretary in 1916 serving multiple terms. He was active in education charity and various fraternal groups and is survived by his widow three children one sister and four brothers.

Thursday officers seized contraband liquor at the home of Morgan Holley in Silver Iisuff. The raid followed a warrant sworn by Sheriff How ard. Steve Holley, Morgan’s son, also resides there and warrants for two men and for Mrs Steve Holley have been sworn.
