Jeff Wallace recalls the Blakely DE-1072’s early shakedown at Charleston Naval Base. A mailbox prank named Building 1072 prompted Captain Carelli to demand the ship leave port and prove its purpose at sea. The crew’s success showed ships and people thrive when used as designed.

Film academy announces reforms to diversify leadership and membership
The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences pledges to double female and minority members by 2020 and adds three new seats to the board. President Cheryl Boone Isaacs says the changes aim to move faster than industry changes. The board also limits voting rights to 10 years with extensions for active film work and grants lifetime voting rights only to Oscar nominees and winners after three ten year terms.
