Sidewalk finally built after 30 years in Seattle
Clark and Ellen Shipley waited decades for a sidewalk in front of their southwest Seattle home. Their 1948 $2061 assessment funded a neighborhood improvement, but a mudslide halted work and bureaucratic shuffle erased the project. City officials admitted the sidewalk was forgotten, and the City Council voted to authorize 1300 to finish the job.
