Senators fix flawed South Carolina unemployment law
South Carolina legislators rushed a Senate subcommittee to repair a flawed jobless benefits rule that delayed claims. The change, enacted last April, gave employers 12 business days to respond, hindering the state’s ability to meet the 21 day federal standard. In 2009 the state paid 82 percent within 21 days. by 2010 the rate dropped to 65 percent, compared with Georgia 86 and North Carolina 88.
