SPCA offers reduced price spay clinic for cats
Seventeen felines received surgery at a special spay clinic hosted by the Aiken SPCA on Tuesday afternoon. Area Worker, a veterinary technician, said the female cats four months or older underwent an ovary and uterus removal in about six minutes of sedation and about 15 minutes of actual surgery with a recovery of 16 to 20 hours. The program aims to curb overpopulation, noting per hour births of dogs and cats far exceed human births. Leanne Inkingham of the SPCA emphasizes limited local capacity and the need for more homes, while early spaying lowers cancer and behavioral risks. Pet owners are urged to neuter both male and female cats.
