The U S Bureau of Labor Statistics reports unemployment rose by at least one point in 22 states from November 1980 to November 1981 with seven states up 2 points or more. Alabama Delaware Indiana Oregon South Carolina Tennessee Washington top the list as the South bears the heaviest concentration. The national rate was 8.4 percent in November.

Aiken Youth Barricaded By Late Night Accident
Fifteen year old Barry Irwin of Aiken remains in very critical condition at Eugene Talmdge Memorial Hospital after being struck by a car along Whiskey Road on a Saturday night. The South Aiken High School student and junior varsity football player has been in intensive care with no change in condition, per hospital spokesman Sally Simpkins. Irwin, of 500 Chapman Street, is remembered as a dedicated athlete and active church member at St. John's United Methodist Church. Coaches and players at South Aiken High postponed last night's football banquet in response to the incident.
