Lutheran group codifies ethics for Lutheran ministers
The Evangelical Lutheran Church in America announced guidelines detailing conduct for ministers. Grounds for discipline include adultery sexual abuse and coercion of sexual favors among others. The 5.3 million member denomination aims to hold clergy accountable while acknowledging concerns over growing legalism. The church, formed in 1988, serves 17 128 clergy including 1 042 women and faces cases from admonition to dismissal.
