Mint Museum of Art evolves as Charlotte’s art hub

The Mint Museum of Art in Charlotte traces its origins to a former U S Mint building designed by William Strickland. Since 1936 it has grown into a multi wing complex with 24 galleries housing over 27 000 works including Hudson River School paintings and Ashcan School pieces. The 1999 Mint Museum of Craft and Design expands craft and design with notable works like Dale Chihuly’s Royal Blue Mint Chandelier. Both facilities welcome visitors Tuesday through Saturday 10 am to 5 pm and Sunday 12 to 5 pm.
