Hitchcock Center to Rename and Unveil Logo at Meeting

Hitchcock Rehabilitation Center will announce a name change and debut a new logo at its annual meeting Monday January 20 at 6 pm. A formal press event follows Tuesday at 11 am. Executive Director Pat Samuel and Marketing Director Carrie Morgan will honor former Aiken residents Bill and Meritt Thurlow for years of volunteer fundraising and leadership. The public is invited to attend with the board, staff, and friends attending to recognize the year’s volunteers of the board and staff.

African Children's Choir entertains local audiences at church

The African Children's Choir from Uganda performed traditional spirituals in multiple languages before a large crowd at First Presbyterian Church. The 20 young performers, mostly orphans, study by day and sing by night while volunteers help them keep up with schooling in English. Proceeds support a Washington State ministry aiding needy children, with two more shows at Crown Christian Center on Sunday.

USCA Wins Grant For Disability Tech Lab And Wireless Expansion

USCA will use a 798000 Education Lottery grant to create an assistive technology lab for students with disabilities and to expand wireless computing campus wide. The plan, titled Ubiquitous Campus Computing, funds a lab with magnification tools Braille printer video magnifier and assistive devices plus wireless classrooms and a public resource center. About 200 disabled students on campus may benefit, with stipends to support program development and training for faculty on educational technology and distance courses.

Williston water not contaminated say officials

Williston drinking water remains safe says DHEC official Craig Dukes noting groundwater solvent plumes head away from public wells.
