Lessons from the Nancy Moore Thurmond Club Build Better Lives
The Salvation Army Nancy Moore Thurmond Boys and Girls Club in Aiken hosts over 50 local youths after school with daily homework, snacks and recreation. Adults and churches back the effort as director Jeff Lahman and volunteers stress mentoring, Bible study and leadership, while prizes motivate good grades and attendance. The program, named for Sen. Strom Thurmond’s daughter, aims to keep kids out of trouble and build lifelong values through faith centered activities and service.
