Graniteville ministers call for tough drug action at council

Graniteville ministers and residents urged the Aiken County Council to implement a strong plan against drug trafficking in Graniteville and New Hope. Spokesman Barry Antley cited violent deaths thefts and frequent threats against clergy as proof of the crisis while noting sheriff and solicitor pledged continued efforts without a clear solution. The solicitor disputed a fatalistic view saying a high effort is needed and that county and city law enforcement resources are limited.

Massacre at Cleveland Elementary shocks Stockton community

A gunman opened fire at Cleveland Elementary School in Stockton during noon recess injuring many and killing four including three Southeast Asian children. Pat Purdy, 26, used two handguns and an AK-47 before killing himself. The scene left students like Binh Hoang shaken as police investigated the attack.

Aiken Council Moves To Appeal Sheriff Fees Ruling

The Aiken County Council voted Tuesday night to appeal a Circuit Court order requiring the county to pay Sheriff Carrol G Heath 15038 71 for attorney fees in his power infringement case. Heath said he was unaware of the appeal decision and would comment after consulting his attorney.
