Provine Hatch Jr. Blues Icon Dies in Kansas City at 80

Provine Little Hatch Hatch Jr a longtime figure in Kansas City blues died Tuesday at age 80. Born in Sledge Mississippi he was the first of nine harmonica playing brothers raised in Helena Arkansas. He moved to Kansas City in 1946 and worked at Hallmark Cards from 1954 to 1986 while continuing to perform in local blues clubs.

Graniteville mobile home destroyed by late fire

Firefighters from the Graniteville Vaucluse Warrenville department responded to 211 Hester Lane at 501 pm Thursday. The doublewide mobile home was engulfed on arrival and spread quickly, resulting in a total loss with no occupants present. Cause under investigation.

Bechtel worker sues over Confederate pride discrimination

A Bechtel Savannah River Site contractor employee filed a federal discrimination suit in Columbia alleging a year probation for wearing a cap with the Sons of Confederate Veterans logo and displaying Confederate symbols in his office. He seeks an injunction, a change to his personnel file, and companywide sensitivity training. The defendant has 30 days to respond.
