Science project workshop on tap at local libraries

Fort Discovery staff invite middle and upper elementary students to a science fair topic workshop. AAUW to Sponsor 42nd Annual Book Fair

The American Association of University Women will sponsor its 42nd annual book fair at the old Dillard's building on Pine Log and Whiskey Roads. The sale runs Friday 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. and Saturday 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Donations accepted starting Jan. 21 Tuesdays 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. and Saturdays 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Call 642-7170 for book donations and 648-6090 for attic treasures.

Wheels to Work program helps low income residents gain transport

Karen Dai reports South Carolina launches Wheels to Work with Edisto Savannah RC&D and DSS to provide eligible participants low or no interest loans for used cars with no down payment. First recipient in Aiken received a 1996 Saturn. Recipients are pre-screened through DSS or job training programs and repay via small monthly installments while maintaining insurance and maintenance costs.

South Carolina Declares All Counties Disaster Areas for Agriculture

Sen Linasey Graham announces that the Department of Agriculture will designate all 46 counties in South Carolina as primary disaster areas for agriculture due to the drought. This makes every farm operator eligible for Farm Service Agency low interest emergency loans, evaluated by losses, security, and repayment ability.

The Aiken Dog Training Club meets Tuesday January 21 at 7 30 p m at Southern Saddlery 880 Banks Mill Road Aiken with Shirley Harden of Aiken County Animal Control on dog problems puppy mills and control options.
