Brown singer faces long rest after demanding tour schedule

The singer, identified as James Brown, was resting after a taxing concert schedule. Attorney Albert Dallas noted the long touring period of five years. Brown, released from a South Carolina prison in 1991, has since issued three singles and three albums including Live at the Apollo (1995). He has a history of domestic violence arrest in 1995, his third wife Adrienne Brown died in January 1996, and he is a part owner of an Augusta radio station.

EMS worker convicted of lewd act in child case

Aiken County EMS technician Harry Waters, 49, was found guilty Friday of committing a lewd act upon a child. Sentencing set for March 23 with a motion for a new trial to also be heard then. Burglary in the first degree was not proven. Waters faces up to 15 years for the lewd act. Waters remains free on a $5,000 bond pending sentencing.

I'm Not Rappaport opens at Aiken Playhouse

The Aiken Community Playhouse debuts the comedy drama I'm Not Rappaport about two elderly men on a park bench amid social chaos and growing tension. Nat and Midge lead a cast including Danforth, Laurie, The Cowboy, Jilley, Slara under Ann Adele Lee's direction. Performances run 8 pm January 23 24 30 31 with a 3 pm matinee January 25. tickets 7 6 4 3 dollars. The venue sits at Price Avenue and Two Notch Road.

Police blotter reports multiple break ins and thefts

A burglar entered an elderly man’s Church Street home Wednesday but fled when his daughter alerted authorities. A 1997 black Ford Explorer was stolen from a Silver Bluff High School gym parking lot on Tuesday. Other thefts include a Walker Road residence, a Hewitt Street Granitevill break-in stealing wax springs, a Richland Avenue West vehicle, and a Williston Road Gran tville burglary with firearms missing. An Aiken Mill Service burglary saw a gate lock broken, a pick-up rack and two vending machines taken. Updated 1/16/98.
