SHARE held an organizational meeting in Aiken County as a new self help advocacy group for current and former mental patients. They discussed possibly acquiring office space for meetings and planned a tentative follow up in later month. For information contact the Mental Health Association in Aiken County at 648-7150.

Herbert W Armstrong founder of the Worldwide Church of God died at his California home at 93. He built a radio Bible empire famed for television broadcasts the Plain Truth magazine and Ambassador College in Pasadena. His son Garner Ted Armstrong spoke of reconciliation attempts before his death.
Martha Dixon Riley mother of South Carolina Governor Dick Riley died at 79 from a stroke suffered en route to tests at the Medical University of South Carolina Greenville. She had been in the ICU and underwent ulcer surgery. Survived by husband Edward Patterson Riley Sr two sons Dick Riley and Edward P Riley Jr six grandchildren and one great grandchild.
Aiken County DSS lists surplus food distribution for applicants. In Aiken alone distribution runs Wednesday 9 AM to 3 PM at 102 Williamsburg Street SE for last names A-K and Thursday for L-Z. Additional sites include Beech Island Our Lady of the Valley Catholic Center and North Augusta Ledges Apartments with varying Wednesday or Thursday windows. Applicants not yet signed up must apply this week at designated sites during 9 AM to 3 PM.
