Aiken Doctor Performs First Total Hip Replacement Here
Dr. Guy C Heyl Jr. performed the first total hip replacement in Aiken County at Aiken County Hospital this summer. The patient, treated for degenerative arthritis since 1966, returned to work three months later. The operation replaces both the femoral head and hip socket using a metal cup without cement, under routine sterile conditions. Hospital administrator Sam Nesbit stated the facility keeps abreast of new techniques.
