Berkshire BerkShares: Locally Circulated Currency Boosts Local Trade
In Great Barrington Massachusetts BerkShares are used by about 350 businesses. The nonprofit Berkshire Inc allocates the local currency with a 10 percent discount for 90 dollar purchases of 100 BerkShares. Over two million dollars have circulated since launch, attracting interest from other communities.
